Sustainability Action! Welcome Week Open House
New Student Orientations are in full swing and University of Minnesota students are thinking about coming back to school! Aside from buying mini fridges, meeting new roommates, and moving in, incoming students have the opportunity to be engaged in the University community through Welcome Week. This year, the Sustainability Education Office at the Institute on the Environment will be hosting
a Sustainability Action! open house where new students and other University affiliates can learn more about sustainability at the U of M. This exciting event will take place in the atrium of the Learning and Environmental Sciences building on the St. Paul Campus and will give students the opportunity to become engaged in sustainability. Last year, over 2,500 students attended! Many student groups
and local businesses will participate, allowing the students to see the impact the University has on the broader community. Important professors and scholars will also be present—leaving you informed about the environmental issues the world faces and how you can help solve them. Save the date, the event will be August 31st from 9 AM to 5 PM.
There will be games, pictures, prizes, and all types of fun! Make sure you participate and tell your friends and family.
Are you a teacher of a sustainability-related course or an advocate for the environment? Sustainability Education is looking for volunteers to help with this event. Participating is a great way to promote your course or group to new students! Short 3-4 hour shifts will be accompanied by a free lunch and a great learning experience! For faculty volunteers, any amount of time will be a great help to us. Volunteers are needed on the 31st for the event and cleanup, and also the evening before for setup.
